Ruth

Although she and her family now reside in Canada, German Way writer Ruth E. has spent almost the entirety of her adulthood living in Europe. Most of her time abroad was spent in Stuttgart, Germany, where she lived and worked for 12 years. She also studied and worked in England for a few years and maintains a nostalgia for all things British (including the weather!). As a math and computer geek, Ruth has worked in the IT sector and in education.

As is the case with many expats, Ruth moved to Germany in order to be with her German husband. They have two wonderful boys and are raising them bilingually. Although she now has spent more time abroad than anywhere in the US, Ruth still refers to Portland, Oregon as “home” and visits there yearly. When she gets some free hours between teaching and parenting, Ruth likes to read, write, garden, cook, and sleep.

Ruth wrote for the German Way Expat Blog from December 2010 until February 2015, and she is one of the co-authors of Germany for Beginners: The German Way Expat Guidebook, based on the German Way Expat Blog.
