My partner is moving over here from England soon, and here is some good information. I've been here for more than twenty years,(and was married to a German for a good bit of that time) but I still can't blow off the perceived rudeness and the elbow thing, no matter how long I've been dealing with it. My friend K tells me we Yanks have to "channel our inner f*** off" sometimes, like the Germans do. They aren't bothered by the directness and don't take offense, so why should we?
